Hitting the mainpage for the first time, Black Sabbath writes "While
communism has been declared dead and buried (with a few stubborn
exceptions), Karl Marx's diagnosis of [0]capitalism's ills seem quite
bang on the money. Harvard Business Review blogger Umair Haque lists
where Marx may have been right." It's a pretty good read once you get
past the author's three paragraph disclaimer that he is not a communist.
The MIT news also ran a short interview [1]discussing the economic trends
in August this morning.

Yahoo. Company CFO Tim Morse will take up the job's responsibilities
temporarily. In an email to Yahoo staff, Bartz said she had been fired
over the phone by the chairman of the board. The AllThingsD blog sums up
the situation thus: "[When Bartz replaced Jerry Yang], she presented a
take-no-prisoners image and was touted as someone with a reputation as a
professional manager who could clean up the place. Not so, as it has
turned out. While Bartz has streamlined certain areas and made some
strong management hires, her performance has been decidedly bumpy and
mostly downhill. The share price has settled in at about $12.50 (just
about where it was when Bartz took over), Yahoo���s recent financial
results have been weak, its key advertising business is struggling, its
attrition rate among engineers and others is startlingly high and its
product innovation cycle seems stopped up."

An anonymous reader writes "The free game with every graphics card deal
has [0]finally backfired for AMD and Codemasters. Due to a lack of
.htaccess, 1.7 million keys for a free copy of DiRT 3 on Steam have been
leaked. No word from AMD or Codemasters yet, but I'm sure Valve will
block all the codes on Steam soon. One question that remains: if you used
one of the codes, will Steam ban your account? There could be a few very
unhappy gamers later today if that happens." The exact number of keys is
in question ��� reports range from 250,000 to 3 million ��� but [1]AMD
confirmed that a leak did occur.

Debuting on Slashdot, seezer writes with a piece by [0]Rick Falkvinge
about a recently release diplomatic cable. From the article: "Among the
treasure troves of recently released WikiLeaks cables, we find one whose
significance has bypassed Swedish media. In short: every law proposal,
every ordinance, and every governmental report [1]hostile to the net,
youth, and civil liberties here in Sweden in recent years have been
commissioned by the U.S. government and industry interests." This is from
a Pirate Party founder and so might be slightly exaggerated, but there is
certainly evidence in the cable that the U.S. exerted quite a bit of
influence of Swedish copyright law. The U.S. government appears
particularly vexed that the Swedish public doesn't seem to think anything
is wrong with copying protected works, and (not unexpectedly) was quite
concerned that Pirate Party members might actually be elected.

about the size of a credit card, and is designed to plug into a TV or be
combined with a touch screen for a low cost tablet. The expected price is

of each other. This process, called multi-die face-down packaging, or xFD
for short, massively increases memory density, reduces power consumption,
and should pave the way for faster and more efficient memory chips.
Multi-die face-down packaging is exactly what it sounds like, with
[2]memory dies stacked on top of each other like roofing tiles. Much like
a normal desktop DIMMs and laptop SO-DIMMs, each of the stacked dies is
wired to each other in series ��� but in this case, the connections are
much shorter, as they only have to run a few micrometers to the chip
below it. This is where all of the power and speed enhancements come
from: shorter interconnects mean less power is needed (and thus less heat
is dissipated) and signals propagate faster."

land on the Red Planet ��� wheels first. Previous Mars rovers have sat atop
a lander platform for at least two Martian days (sols) before venturing

therefore killed by the harsh UV light that bathes Mars. As the MSL's
